Taking the Fear, Anxiety and Stress out of Veterinary Visits
Animal Medical Center of Middletown has decided to change the way we practice veterinary medicine. We want to make sure that we are doing all that we can to insure that your pet is taken care of not only medically but emotionally as well. So, we have decided to take the next step in veterinary care by practicing Fear Free techniques and becoming Fear Free Certified Professionals.
Fear Free means that we are taking extra care to make sure that your pet's fear, stress and anxiety when coming to the vet is reduced or eliminated, and therefore has a pleasant visit.
When coming into our practice for a visit we will offer you a pheromone towel for your cat carrier, or a pheromone bandana for your dog. These pheromones can help reduce stress and anxiety while you wait to be called back into an exam room.
Once in the exam room, your pet will experience a soft exam table or comfort spot on the floor. As well as more pheromones, calming music, a toy basket, special treats and cat nip and a warm table for our feline patients.
If your pet is too fearful or anxious for their visit we may stop and discuss your pet's emotional discomfort with you and make recommendations on how to reduce the fear and anxiety for the next visit. We are looking out for your pets overall well-being, and forcing your pet to do something that causes him or her extreme distress is only going to make the next visit even more stressful.
Desensitizing and counter-conditioning packages are now being offered. These sessions are one on one and designed to work with your pet to help them overcome their fears and anxieties when coming to the vet office, or to help prevent them. You can find out more about DSCC by clicking on the "services" tab then the "behavior" category.
We feel that becoming a Fear Free practice is the next step we need to take to enhance our relationship with you and your pets.
